My Own Stories
Throughout the summer, I will share some of my own stories already written. Perhaps reading these “chapters” from an unfinished draft of a memoir, you too will think about and write some of your stories. The benefits of writing about your own lived story cannot be overstated or measured.

Notes to Self
Writing has helped me figure out what I think. I never appreciate what I actually feel about something or someone until I have wrapped words around ideas, stories, books, movies, or personal experiences.

Out of the Mouth of Babes
Two young people––“babes” in the scriptural sense––without realizing their words reached my ears and far beyond their immediate concerns, their conversations offered a lot more wisdom about life and more insight and perception about people than I had at their age.

Church: A Search for Community
The need for community increases as we age even while the opportunity for genuine connection with others may decrease. While society in general and churches in particular have their problems, church remains a place to seek and find community.

Steps, Missteps, and Obstacles in Every Journey
One of my professors said that he learned from reading The Lord of the Rings “You can choose whether to get involved in an adventure, but you can’t choose how much it will cost you.” He reminded me near the end of my seminary journey that life is about making choices.
