A Defining Moment
Death casts its shadow over my life weeks after my ninth birthday, four days after Christmas. There is no way for me to look back at my life apart from what writers term “a defining moment.”

Throughout the summer, I will share some of my own stories already written. Perhaps reading these “chapters” from an unfinished draft of a memoir, you too will think about and write some of your stories. The benefits of writing about your own lived story cannot be overstated or measured.

Writing has helped me figure out what I think. I never appreciate what I actually feel about something or someone until I have wrapped words around ideas, stories, books, movies, or personal experiences.
Out of the Mouth of Babes
Two young people––“babes” in the scriptural sense––without realizing their words reached my ears and far beyond their immediate concerns, their conversations offered a lot more wisdom about life and more insight and perception about people than I had at their age.
